It is a quality some are born with, but mostly it is borne out over time through listening, observing, analyzing. And it’s borne out of experiences. Making mistakes and learning from them.
In Ellen’s case, she has been the observer, learner, and “fixer” of more of other people’s mistakes than her own by far. For a number of years, Ellen’s core responsibility was as head of editorial services, tasked with ensuring the accuracy of all materials leaving the agency. Her team found a dozen things wrong with this paragraph before it went live.
Ellen has worked as an editor in healthcare communications agencies for more than a decade, but her real role at the agency is provider of wisdom. As Vice President of Professional Services, she continues to oversee editorial and now supervises other departments as well. But many of the things Ellen does—such as initiating strategic thought leadership content to support new business efforts, driving the agency’s social media initiative, monitoring and advising on FDA warnings and compiling a registry to help analyze trends, or giving counsel to management as part of the executive team—go far beyond the scope of editorial or even research. These are the kinds of things that give the agency value, and yes, the wisdom our clients seek.

Ellen holds a BS from Cornell University and is currently pursuing a Masters of Management in Social Media Marketing from Chancellor University.
